DID - Direct Inbound Dial

is a feature offered by telephone companies for use with their customers' PBX system, whereby the telephone company (telco) allocates a range of numbers all connected to their customer's PBX. As calls are presented to the PBX, the number that the caller dialed is also given, so the PBX can route the call to the desired person or bureau within the organization

DNIS - Dialed Number Identification Service

is a telephone service that identifies for the receiver of a call the number that the caller dialed. It's a common feature of 800 and 900 lines. If you have multiple 800 or 900 numbers to the same destination, DNIS tells which number was called.

A telephone exchange that is owned by a private business. A PBX connects all of a business's telephone sets to the public telephone network (PSTN) . All devices connected to the PBX are referred to as extensions (i.e. fax machines and modems).

The PBX equipment is usually installed at a business's premises, and connects calls between the telephones installed on-site. A company may use several outside lines (called trunk lines) for making and receiving calls external to the site which connect to the PSTN. Companies can connect multiple sites by linking PBXs together with trunk lines.
